Alexander Calder - Indiana University

Project: Peau Rouge Restoration

Year: 2025 - 2026

Description: Alexander Calder was commissioned to create Peau Rouge Indiana for the Jacobs School of Music’s Musical Arts Center on Indiana University’s campus. The iconic steel sculpture was fabricated in 1970 in Tours, France, and stands 40’ tall. Indiana University partnered on the project with the Calder Foundation and Abigail Mack, a sculptor conservator, who developed a treatment plan for the artwork. Indianapolis general contractor, Jungclaus-Campbell, is in charge of sandblasting, priming, and painting activities, which should be completed in the Spring of 2026. BPS was contracted to remediate areas of corrosion along the edges and bottom of several of the sculpture’s base plates.
